Unveiling the Power of Focus: Emily’s Athletic Journey and Enduring Spirit

by Emily Rosario @EmilyIsFocused

What is this obsession with “Focused?” Why is this my mantra? Why do I believe in it so much?

Let’s take a deep dive into the meaning of being Focused, and why it’s important to me and my brand.

In my eyes, it is an art to be Focused. It’s a work ethic that I have naturally gravitated to in my life. Since I was five years old, I have played sports. All kinds of sports in this order more or less; tee ball, baseball, basketball, swimming, golfing at the range, miniature golf, softball, soccer to track and field; my main study.

While participating in these sports, I grew up with my parents both being very athletic. To this very day, they still play sports. I believe my parents met at the paddle ball courts, but they have been also very naturally athletic most of their lives. My dad was a lifeguard, so as a swimmer, his endurance is pretty impressive. He could swim for miles and miles, in the deep-sea ocean, while I watched from the base of the water waves. I was always too shy to go any deeper than I needed to. He also plays softball, like my mom. But my mom, who was excellent at it, so much so, she’s played on 7 different teams in a single season, for several years, working full time as a New York Police Officer….all while also being a legend. An multi time winner as the shortstop MVP. I earned her speed.

So, with endurance from my father, and speed from my mother, in true essence, running was my natural way of being my best version. Back in the day, I was so good at playing tag in those playgrounds. I really built an edge for it.

But with the double edge sword of both speed and endurance in my blood, one must ask themselves, how can Emily still be struggling to earn a US National title? and with such questions, why is she still training after 20 years of competitive running? Most people give up. Why is she still out there, pushing herself to the next limit, instead of working obsessively as a young adult?

All these harsh realities Emily must face, but in her heart and soul, running calls to her. It’s her way of peace, and also her hunger. It’s the drive that makes Emily succeed, even in the shallowest of moments.
